US Visa FAQs from India
Common questions about B1/B2 applications, the DS-160, fees, documents, appointments, interviews, refusals and processing.
Clear answers without guarantees
Official rules and local procedures can change. Applicants should verify current instructions before payment, booking or interview attendance.
What is a B1/B2 visa?
B-1 generally covers qualifying temporary business activities and B-2 generally covers tourism, family visits and certain medical travel. A combined B1/B2 visa may be issued.
How much is the B1/B2 application fee?
The Department of State currently lists US$185 for non-petition-based visitor categories. Check the official India payment system for the current INR amount.
Is the fee refundable if the visa is refused?
No. The application processing fee is non-refundable.
Do I need a DS-160 for a visitor visa?
Yes. The online DS-160 is required for nonimmigrant visa applications, and the barcode confirmation page should be kept for the process.
Can US Visa Agents guarantee approval?
No. Only the relevant US authority decides the application.
Can you guarantee an early appointment?
No. We assist with official booking and legitimate earlier availability, but the calendar is controlled by US authorities.
Do I need an invitation letter?
An invitation may help explain a genuine visit but is not compulsory for a B1/B2 application and does not determine the decision.
How much bank balance is required?
There is no single official minimum that guarantees approval. Funds should reasonably support the trip and be consistent with the applicant’s circumstances.
Should I buy flight tickets before the interview?
Avoid non-refundable commitments based only on an expected approval. A proposed itinerary can be explained without purchasing irreversible travel.
What happens after a refusal?
Review the legal ground and the previous application. A new application generally needs a new DS-160, fee and appointment.
Can someone else complete my DS-160?
A person may assist, but the applicant remains responsible for every answer and electronically signs the application.
What should I take to the interview?
Follow current official post instructions. Core items usually include the passport, DS-160 confirmation and appointment information, plus relevant supporting evidence.
Can I work in the United States on B1/B2?
No. A visitor visa does not authorise ordinary employment in the United States.
What is administrative processing?
It is additional post-interview review. Timing depends on the individual case and cannot be guaranteed.
Are interviews required for every renewal?
Interviews are generally required, with limited waiver eligibility under current rules. The official system and post instructions determine whether an applicant may use an interview-waiver process.
